More and more people are reporting indigestion. It is this typical bulge in the lower abdomen that, along with other symptoms such as flatulence, food intolerances, diarrhea or abdominal pain, can indicate that the intestinal flora is not currently at its optimum level.
From a group of over 200 applicants, we selected 20 people as testers for our flatulence study. The inclusion criteria for the study were current digestive disorders, particularly bloating. All testers agreed to take the exogenous probiotic HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 under controlled, constant conditions over a period of 3 months.
All testers agreed to document the course of intake in writing and in pictures using standardized questionnaires. They were given specific instructions on how to take the supplement, as well as behavioral advice on the right lifestyle for healthy digestion.
At the end of the study, we were able to complete the trial with 12 testers. 8 people either discontinued their documentation without feedback or withdrew from the study for personal reasons.
After 3 months, 11 of the 12 people reported a significant improvement in their symptoms as reported before starting to take HBN Bacillus Subtilus DSM 21097.
Introduction
The importance of intestinal flora for human health is increasingly coming into the limelight. Many years ago it was thought that the intestine was only responsible for the absorption, processing and excretion of food, but today we know about the systemic influence of the intestinal flora on the whole body.
There is evidence, for example, of
- a gut-muscle axis
- a gut-brain axis
- a gut-pancreas axis
- a gut-thyroid axis
- a gut-immune system axis
In addition to the systemic importance of the intestinal flora for human health, it is becoming increasingly clear that the bacterial colonization of the large intestine is highly individual. The intestinal flora of one host is never exactly like the intestinal flora of another host. In addition to a certain genetic predisposition, each host influences its specific intestinal microbiota.
Examples include
- Existing obesity
- Frequency of exercise in everyday life
- Intake of dietary fiber
- Intake of medication
- Stress level
- Selection and intake of certain foods
- Proportion of animal products in the diet
- Diet (ketogenic, low carb, high carb, high protein, etc.)
- Intake of sweeteners
- Alcohol consumption
- Smoking
Digestive disorders
Nowadays, many people complain about digestive disorders. Although it is a taboo subject in society to talk about bloating, flatulence or diarrhea, I have had countless direct and virtual conversations over the last few years and collected testimonials from those affected. The relevance of this topic has even prompted me to set up my own Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/212132536838975) entitled "BLOODY BELLY ADE", which is available as an information and exchange medium for those affected.
Probiotics
In the three years that I have been paying special attention to the topic of digestion and intestinal flora in particular, I have increasingly understood why there are countless probiotics on the health market. On the other hand, there is still no clear definition of "healthy intestinal flora", which is no wonder given the individualities mentioned above. It also seems logical to me why the study situation on the use of endogenous probiotic strains can still be regarded as shaky and is likely to remain so.
Curtis Huttenhower, director of the Harvard Chan Center for the Microbiome in Public Health, has formulated an apt comparison in this regard:
"A healthy forest is not defined by the presence of a particular species of tree. In a healthy forest, not all tree species have to be represented. A forest can be healthy even without a typical forest environment."
Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097
In the course of my research, I looked for a way that seemed more promising. I ended up with an exogenous probiotic that is still relatively unknown in this country, but has already become very popular in Russia. Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097!
This is a specific exogenous bacterium selected by scientists that can colonize the surfaces of the digestive tract for up to 2 weeks. During this time, Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 produces more than 70 enzymes, more than 30 types of antiobiotics, antimicrobial substances, vitamins, amino acids and other macro- and microelements that are constantly being researched. In this way, Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 is not only able to vitalize the intestinal flora, but also to selectively and rapidly reduce pathogenic bacteria. On the one hand, this creates space for new, beneficial bacteria. On the other hand, it can reduce the occurrence of digestive complaints, allergies, food intolerances or excessive immune reactions.
ATTENTION
According to European law, there is still no so-called health claim for all the statements made, which is why the effects must all be labeled as scientifically not clearly proven! I have done this here.
On the other hand, I can now refer to hundreds of feedback and experience reports, all of which have regained a great deal of joie de vivre with Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 thanks to less digestive complaints and a number of other associated symptoms. I have been documenting all feedback since the first day in THIS CONTRIBUTION. Very interesting to take a look at.

The study
In cooperation with PEAK PERFORMANCE PRODUTS, I have included Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 in my own supplement line as HBN BACILLUS SUBTILIS DSM 21097.
As part of the launch, we decided to conduct a study with those affected, which I would now like to briefly describe.
In July 2020, we launched an appeal on social media to recruit potential test subjects for our study. We received over 200 submissions within a few days, from which 20 people were selected for the study.
At the time of the survey, all test subjects complained of acute bloating and various other digestive complaints of varying severity.
All subjects agreed in advance to take 1 capsule of HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 twice daily with a main meal over a test period of three months.
All test subjects were instructed not to make any other major changes to their lifestyle or eating habits during the test period. It was also forbidden to use any other probiotics. Applications from athletes in acute competition preparation, for example, were also excluded from the test, as were people who were scheduled to undergo surgery, hospitalization, cures or other procedures during the test period.
All test subjects were given standardized rules of conduct for maintaining healthy intestinal flora before starting the test.
All test subjects undertook to complete a further 3 standardized documentation questionnaires BEFORE the start of the intake and then during the course of the test phase until the end.
They were asked about
- Body weight
- Waist and hip circumferences
- Photographs of the abdomen from the front and from the side
- Subjective well-being in general and with regard to digestion
- Regularity of product intake
- Occurrence of side effects
The results
Test subjects
Of the 20 test subjects originally registered for the study, 12 completed the study.
8 subjects either discontinued their documentation without feedback or withdrew from the study for personal reasons.
Weight
The body weight of the participants decreased by an average of 0.9 kg over the course of the 3 test months
Waist circumference
The participants' waist circumference decreased by an average of 2.27 cm over the course of the 3 test months
Hip circumference
The participants' hip circumference decreased by an average of 1.52 cm over the course of the 3 test months
Effect
11 testers reported an overall positive effect from taking the supplement.
1 tester reported a lack of effect from taking the product
Side effects

10 testers reported no side effects at all from taking HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097
Subjective change
Feedback start | Feedback end |
Digestion is variable, more frequent sometimes thin Bowel movements, rather irregular frequency of bowel movements, after meals I feel very full and less efficient despite normal amounts, rather tired or very unwell. I often have bloating or a distended stomach, especially during the day, and this restricts me. I can then hardly do any sport or similar until the bowel is relieved. | Digestion is regular and good. I have no problems with bloating. I just have the feeling that the extra kilos are there and slow me down. But digestion is unaffected. I will continue to take the product after the trial because I have the feeling that it is good for me and contributes to regular digestion even with a protein-rich diet. |
Bloated, watery due to heat, very bloated, doesn't get better in the morning after getting up. | Well, there are mornings from time to time when my stomach is nice and flat, not always, but I have the feeling it is getting better. Training is better in the evening, as the stomach no longer reaches its "peak", but only swells slightly. |
Bloated, discomfort, sluggish bowel, cramps | Hardly any abdominal pain, very rarely bloated belly, no more cramps, rarely flatulence, regular bowel movements. |
Almost daily diarrhea, flatulence, bloated abdomen, pain, strong bowel noises. | Digestion works well, regular bowel movements. Reduced abdominal bloating, rarely intestinal gas. |
Frequent mild flatulence after eating, no excessive feeling of fullness, frequent cramps | Significant improvement in symptoms. Occasional mild flatulence, but this may be due to food. No more cramps (very rare), generally significant improvement. |
Stomach is always bloated, even in the morning after getting up. A real ball in the evening. Abdomen is distended in the upper and lower abdomen. Digestion rather sluggish. Without daily cardio, sometimes no bowel movements for two or three days. | Abdomen is still bloated. Sometimes just as bloated on an empty stomach in the morning as in the evening. Digestion sluggish. Especially with less exercise. Unfortunately, still no noticeable positive effect. |
Bloated, unwell, constantly full, flatulence | Depends on the day. Flatulence is still there from time to time, as is the bloated feeling. Digestion has become great. |
Very unwell. Belly bloated, hurts and "bubbles". No bowel movement. Woke up first thing in the morning with a bloated belly. Worse again after breakfast, slightly better towards the evening. | Overall, digestion has improved a lot, flat stomach - hardly any bloating and good digestion. But every now and then there are slight problems in the form of flatulence. I have not yet been able to find out why. |
Diarrhea directly after eating, bloated belly | No more digestive problems, only slight bloating. |
As soon as I eat a meal in the morning, my stomach inflates with air and this is directly visible in my lower abdomen as well as causing air to move around in my intestines. This moving air generally causes a slight lower abdominal pain, as it does not go away for a very long time during the day. It is very difficult for the air to escape and I struggle with bloating throughout the day. I also have a feeling of fullness as my digestion is very difficult during the day and I usually only have a small window of time in the morning when I can go to the toilet and in the evening the feeling of fullness usually presses around the lower intestinal area. | The bloating has improved significantly compared to how I felt before the study. I usually have good digestion, especially in the morning, and I do this regularly every day. On most days, I have almost no more discomfort due to moving air in my intestines. On rare days, however, the discomfort still occurs from time to time. Compared to before the study, the air is released much better and faster. The typical bloated belly has visually decreased significantly and only bothers me on a few days. It definitely no longer appears immediately after the first meal as it did before taking the product. The feeling of fullness has also decreased significantly. On a few days I only have problems in the evening. |
Bloated, very flatulent stomach | Although there were always days in between when I was more bloated, the overall condition has improved. The digestion of foods that cause bloating and flatulence in me, such as cabbage (I deliberately tested this), went more smoothly. I definitely have significantly less bloating overall, almost a 99% improvement. I also got clearer skin, which is probably related to the intake, as I haven't changed anything else in my diet or skin care. |
Very bloated | Hardly any bloated feeling any more, if then only during my period, digestion is much better and food is no longer so heavy in my stomach (in terms of feeling). |

Evaluation
In my opinion, the second study I have conducted with Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 provides a good cross-section of the feedback I have received from other users.
The overall slight change in the average body weight of the test subjects, together with the changes in waist and hips, suggests that the intake of the test product and not a diet-related weight reduction has led to improved bloating symptoms.
As far as the effects are concerned, I have observed them in other practice in a similar proportion to the study. A large proportion of people with typical symptoms benefit from taking HBN Bacillus Sub tilis DSM 21097. Nevertheless, there are also constellations in which there is no improvement with HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 despite obvious bloating in the lower abdominal region. In the vast majority of these cases, antidepressants from the SSRI category or other medications are taken, which have been proven to slow down intestinal peristalsis and make the intestines "sluggish", if you like. Surgical histories or misalignments of the pelvic floor can also be causes. The intestinal flora is not necessarily the biggest problem here.
The study also provides a good insight into the general situation with regard to side effects. Most users do not experience any negative side effects with HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097. Few users initially report a slight to moderate worsening of symptoms as reported. This can usually be overcome. In very few cases, I have advised a temporary reduction in the dosage from 2 to 1 capsule per day for a few days.
From the subjective feedback of the participants, it is clear that all of them initially associated a great deal of suffering with the digestive tract. Bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain or diarrhea are not only a physiological problem, but at some point also a psychological one. I am therefore all the more pleased to receive such feedback at the end of the study. At this point, it is interesting to mention that in practice, it is by no means only feedback on less bloating with the intake of HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097. Reflux, gastritis, skin problems, irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerances, mood improvements, reduced menstrual cramps or allergies are all disorders for which I have already received positive changes in connection with the intake of HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097. This underlines the systemic influence of the intestinal flora on the entire body.
It is important to mention that it is not enough for all users to use the product for 3 months! This is also evident from the feedback from the testers. While 3 months is a sufficient period for some cases, I am also aware of constellations that suffered a kind of minor relapse after discontinuing a 3-month cure. In these cases, the treatment should initially be extended by a further 3 months. In general, HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 should be used at least once or twice over the course of a year.
It is extremely important to keep an eye on the other general conditions for a healthy digestive tract.
These would be
- Adequate fiber intake
- Adequate fluid intake
- Avoidance of highly processed foods
- Avoidance of stress or good stress management
- Avoidance of accumulation of environmental toxins or heavy metals
Summary
Taking HBN Bacillus Subtilis DSM 21097 can be very effective in reducing or even eliminating bloating and other digestive problems in many, though not all, cases. In terms of efficiency, the exogenous probiotic is superior to other endogenous probiotics. Although the effects have not yet been conclusively proven by science, this assessment is the result of this study, as well as countless application reports that have been collected in recent years on the use of HBN Subtilis DSM 21097.
